Native American Shelter Project
(Counts as a test grade)
The students can choose to make a Native American shelter as their test grade OR take a written test. If they choose to make a shelter instead of the written test, they will choose their tribe by drawing a card from a basket .
The video (above) plus the slide show will help them get an idea of the tribal shelter they will construct.

Here are the requirements:
This project will count as their test grade.
It must be assembled in a shoe box lid labeled with name, teacher's name, tribe name.
We are limited on space, so this is necessary.
Try to use some materials found in your yard.
We have expressed to the students to try and use as much as they can from nature.
This is exactly what a Native American would have done.
We do realize that this will be difficult or impossible with the building of some shelters
(EX. The Inuits and their Igloos).
We will not count off if they have to use items purchased, but we want this project to stay inexpensive.
They may need to do a little research about the tribe of their choice in order to build a shelter that coincides to that tribe.
