Writing - Figurative Language



Figurative Language is descriptive language that creates an image in the reader's mind. 





           




  

A simile makes a comparison between two things using the words "like" or "as".



                           



            







Metaphors compare two things without using "like" or "as".  A metaphor says that one thing IS another.












Giving human feelings and characteristics to animals or objects





          



         



           




An exaggeration so dramatic that it is unbelievable



        



        



A word that imitates the sound that it describes

                 






When words in a sentence or poem start with the same beginning sound.
